STORY

WE EXIST TO REACH THE CITY OF LIMERICK FOR JESUS

WHO WE ARE

Calvary Chapel Limerick seeks to “live together before the face of God.” This means that we seek to be a community that loves, encourages, challenges and cares for one another, being united in Christ. Living before the face of God means coming to Him by His grace, through faith, on a regular basis and worshipping Him! It means praying and communicating with Him, learning from the Bible (His Word to us). We want to learn to follow Him in a way that doesn’t depend on us and our strength. Instead, we want to be people who rely on the strength and live in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Pastor Wavey

Wavey (David Cowpar), is a Limerick native born in the city at the very end of the 80s (Nov. 89). He became a Christian at the age of 6, but really dedicated his life to the Lord at 17.

Wavey attended UCC in Cork achieving a BA in Religion and History and a PDE in Education. In his time in UCC he was a committee member and later President of the Christian Union there. His year as President of the Christian Union was really formative in his sense of calling to pastor a church. Following UCC, Wavey did a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Theology in the Irish Bible Institute and worked as an intern in Calvary Cork.

It was this time in Calvary Cork that solidified a calling to minister within the Calvary Chapel Movement of churches. Wavey later attended Calvary Chapel Bible College (CCBC) in Murrieta California with the goal of returning to Ireland and establishing and pastoring Calvary Chapel Limerick.

What is Calvary Chapel?

Calvary Chapel is a worldwide fellowship of Christian churches known for its simple, yet sound, expositional approach to God's Word. During 1965 in Southern California, Pastor Chuck Smith began his ministry at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa with just twenty-five people. At a pivotal time in history, Smith welcomed all, young and old, without judgment, into the local church. With a sincere concern for the lost and a strong emphasis on the Word of God, Pastor Chuck and his wife Kay made room in the church and their home for a generation of hippies and surfers, serving in the midst of a powerful movement of the Holy Spirit that spread throughout the world. In the wake of that move of the Holy Spirit, what began as a small local church grew into an international family of over 1700 churches around the world. Today, the churches who make up the Calvary Ireland network continue to emphasise the sound expositional teaching of Scripture, the empowering of the Holy Spirit, and our fellowship one with another - all that we may know Him deeper and make Him known more broadly throughout Ireland and the world.
